CLIMBING (SINGLE PITCH) AND ABSEILING ASSESSMENT MAIN POINTS.
ASSESSMENTS CAN BE DIVIDED INTO FOUR MAIN AREAS:- 

a) Single pitch climbing.
b) Top/bottom roping 
c) Climbing walls
d) Abseiling.

Assessments can be taken in all or any of the individual areas, depending on what is wanted.

Applicants will be asked to demonstrate personal technical competence and show an understanding of group supervision.
Assessments may contain an element of training where it is felt the applicant may benefit.

Assessment recommendations given, will be based upon the level of competence and technical ability shown within the four main areas. The applicants current experience, as set out on the form will be taken into account.

Emphasis will be placed on the following :-

• Personal climbing ability to a standard in keeping with the level of authorisation required.
  

• Group safety awareness.
  
• Safe belay techniques.
  
• Knowledge of guide books and the grading system so that a pitch can be  selected suitable for the group under supervision at the time.
  
• Choosing a safe descent.
  
• Lowering off.
  
• Tying on.
  
• The demonstration and appropriate use of direct and indirect belays.
  
• The ability to select sound and appropriate belay anchorage
  
• Protect a pitch with the placement of runners and bring up your  second (single pitch lead).
  
• Being aware of fall factors (single pitch lead).
  
• Knowledge and correct use of the calls used in climbing
  
• Setting up a releasable abseil and running a session
  
• Showing awareness of problems that can occur and demonstrating procedures to deal with them (e.g. how to release a stuck abseiler and lower off safely
  
• Demonstrate how to escape from the system
  
• Awareness of crag etiquette, access and conservation
